I live in the village of Deddington, England.
Deddington is located between Banbury and Oxford on the edge of the Cotswolds in the rural county of Oxfordshire.
The village has a history back to the 6th or 7th Century while it's name probably comes from Daedintun - "the place of the people of Daeda". Daeda, for those of you who don't know, was probably an early Saxon lord - somehow I doubt he featured in school history lessons though!
These days the village probably fits your image of a "typical English village" except that the village green is too small to play cricket on, so the village team plays on the edge of Deddington near the Community Centre. With narrow streets, honey-coloured ironstone buildings, several old coaching inns serving great beer and food and a great community spirit it's an ideal place to live - but please don't all come here, because we're quite big enough, thanks!
If you're reading this thinking that we're probably idyllically rural with horses as the main means of transport and one of those new-fangled telephone things in the Post Office you'd be wrong! Yes, Deddington is idyllic, but we're not backward - we even have our own web site. Check it out for lots of interesting information and pictures (no point in duplicating things here).
When I'm at home (that is, not out at Play) I enjoy varied music - pretty much everything from Bon Jovi to Bix Beiderbecke, but not much classical, which is all reproduced in the best possible manner on my Arcam and Mission based setup. If you're one of those people who thinks they will not be able to tell the difference between real hi-fi and mainstream Japanese systems, you're wrong. Get yourself down to your local hi-fi dealer (not one of those major high street multiples selling everything from cameras to binoculars with a bit of PC and music stuff thrown in) for a cup of tea and a listen and you will be amazed. Honestly, for the same price as some of the mass market stuff you really can get a much better sound, although you'll probably have to forego the meaningless flashing lights - if you want those, buy a television! Yup, I've got one of those as well, for which I have a full DVD and Dolby Digital setup - magic! And, if you haven't experienced the wonders of home cinema yet - don't, because, once you've seen and heard it, you will need it!
What else. Well, some reading (I'm a complete National Geographic addict!) and there's nothing quite like a good potter in the garden for relaxation after a stressful day. No, I'm not boring really, honest - check out my Play page...
